January 2015 -- Happy New Year! Bideawee's "Love Your Pet Art Contest & Expo" - Bideawee invites artists grades 1-12 to participate in the organization’s 7th annual “Love Your Pet Art Contest & Expo.” All are encouraged to use their artistic talent to express their love for animals.
- Students grades 1-8 can submit artwork representing any medium (drawings, paintings, sculptures, etc.).
- Students grades 9-12 are invited to submit photography and video for Bideawee’s new online contest. Students can enter photos and video at www.bideawee.org/loveyourpet from January 2, 2015 – February 1, 2015.
- The first 300 art entries from grades 1-8 will be displayed at Bideawee’s Art Expo for viewing by the public at select times from February 9th – 15th. Winners will be determined by public vote. A $5 donation will grant entrance into the show and help continue to care for the pets in need at Bideawee.
- All winners will be announced on February 16th. All artwork must be mailed or dropped off at the Adoption Center at Bideawee located at 118 Old Country Road, Westhampton, NY 11977 from 9am-5pm daily, before February 1, 2015.

December 2014 Annual Pet Photos with Santa & Holiday Social  - Attention all dog guardians! Mark your calendars for the first weekend in December when Kent Animal Shelter will be hosting their annual holiday tradition for family pets! Photographer Kathleen O'Donnell will be on hand to take professional photographs of your pets for a $10 donation. All proceeds will benefit homeless animals. There will be handmade pet gifts for sale which are all lovingly made by volunteers. Donations of pet food, treats, toys and clean bedding will be gratefully accepted. Kent Animal Shelter is a 501C3 organization established in 1968 in Calverton, NY that provides a no-kill haven for homeless animals, adoption services, a spay/neuter clinic, and humane education. Celebrate the holidays in Martha Clara’s pet-friendly tasting room.

November 2014 Santa Paws – Benefit for the League for Animal Protection of Huntington  National 'Adopt A Senior Pet Month' at Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center - They will be offering free senior pet adoptions -- Senior pets are any animal 6 years of age or older.

February 2014 LONG BEACH POLAR BEAR CLUB  On Sunday, February 2 at 1:30 p.m., the doctors and staff will be taking our 9th annual plunge into the freezing cold Atlantic Ocean at Long Beach to help raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York. Together with your help and thousands of other participants, we raised over $650,000 which granted 86 wishes to terminal children. October 2013 - Brookhaven Animal Shelter - Waived Adoption Fees (Newsday, Oct 31, 2013)
- Town officials have announced Ashley Boyd, a two-year volunteer at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter as the new director.
- With adoption fees waived for the remainder of the year, the number of dogs has dropped to just over 150, while the number of cats has gone up to 82.

September 2013 - Dog Fest "Walk n' Roll" by the Canine Companions for Independence
Grab a leash (and your person) and come to Canine Companions DogFest Walk n' Roll. This event is family friendly, dog friendly, and completely accessible for people with disabilities. - What to expect: An inspiring opening ceremony, a leisure walking course and plenty of two and four-legged fun along the way. We'll end with a big celebration and a chance to learn more about the amazing work of Canine Companions for Independence.

October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month and in honor of that, the Town of Huntington and the League for Animal Protection are co-sponsoring a free spay/neuter program for pit bull and pit bull mixes. October is also Adopt A Shelter Dog Month
| September 2012 Canine Companions for Independence is a national, non-profit organization that breeds, trains, and places highly skilled assistance dogs with people with disabilities. The estimated cost to place just one of these canines is over $45,000 and yet there is no charge to the recipient. DogFest is a special fundraiser to underwrite the program costs. Dogfest will take place Saturday, Sept 22 from 11:00-3:00 Farmingdale State College Walk-A-Thon, Scavenger Hunt, Vendors, Costume Parade, Activities for the whole family, including the dog! | | July 2012 Volunteer of the Month: Melissa Van Horn -- CONGRATULATIONS!
Melissa, a client of the vet hospital and owner of the Groomery in Stony Brook recently donated animal oxygen masks to Setauket Fire Department. Melissa learned that all of the fire departments she contacted in Nassau and Suffolk Counties did not carry these life-saving devices. This inspired Melissa and others to start a charity called O2 For Pets Too. She said to start, she will donate small, medium, and large masks to each fire department, so they can give oxygen to animals of any size. Melissa is currently in the process of becoming a non-profit under the name Animal Rights Advocacy Group in order to extend her charitable efforts beyond donating oxygen masks to include efforts such as pet rescue.
New "Leader of the Pack" at Save-A-Pet (The Village Times Herald, July 19, 2012) Congratulations to Erica Kutzing, the new director of operations at Save-A-Pet in Port Jefferson Station. " 'We are thrilled to have Erica join us as our new director of operations," said Dori Scofield, president of Save-A-Pet. 'We are confident that she will continue her exceptional work of caring for the homeless, abandoned and abused animals of Long Island.' "
| June 2012 Marie Marsh, long time client and resident of St. James recently had published her book Courage....Congratulations! Her book is about a small puppy named Courage, who finds the family that he is destined to be part of. The story follows his birth, leaving his litter in the Midwest and eventually arriving at a pet store in a small, little coastal town. Courage captures the heart of a young soldier as his family is preparing for his departure. Courage is an uplifting story about family. Courage can be purchased at the St. James General Store and also at Elements of Home, both in St. James. It is also available at online book stores. Congratulations to Dr. John C. DeVerna on achieving the required number of C.E. hours for participation in the 2011 New York State Academy of Veterinary Practice. Dr. DeVerna is committed to maintaining and enhancing professional competency. She is pursuing a small-animal rotating internship with emphasis on emergency and critical care at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in Weymouth, MA. More than 50 dogs and a number of cats will be available at the fair, dubbed "Dog Days of Summer," from noon to 3 p.m. at the shelter at 210 Denver Drive, Bay Shore.
A two-day fair for the LAP Huntington/Town of Huntington Animal Shelter in East Northport (104/106 Deposit Road) features adoptable dogs and cats, a dog-kissing booth and more, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on July 9 and July 10 (as featured in Newsday, July 5, 2011). | June 2011 Dori Scofield, founder and president of Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, Inc, in Port Jefferson Station, has been named one of Long Island Business News' Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business for 2011. - At the end of December 2010, one of client's children was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare disease in which cancer cells are found in the bone or in soft tissue.
- On January 31st Christina Heinzer began her chemotherapy session which are scheduled for three weeks per month for a total of 1 year. This type of necessary aggressive treatment has placed the family in a lot of emotional, physical, and financial stress.

| October 2010 We are pleased to announce that Heather and Matthew Caro, clients of the veterinary hospital, have just had their first child, baby Hunter. He is such a cute little baby and can be seen on our photo board posing with his big (doggie) brother, Cape. Check him out next time you are in the office. Congrats Heather and Matthew.
| September 2010 | August 2010 | July 2010 | June 2010 Dr. Gerald Cole, owner of two cats, "Flocko" and "Lizzie," just completed an 8-hour bike ride of almost 2000 feet in efforts to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The event raised over $30,000,000.00 thanks to the generous support of thousands of people, including Dr. John DeVerna and the Three Village Veterinary Hospital. Congratulations to Erin, one of our technicians, and her husband Mike. They are expecting their first child who is due in August. Lauren, our hospital manager, along with the help of other friends and family, hosted a "surprise" baby shower in her honor, although we think she knew. The doctors and staff at Three Village Veterinary Hospital wish her well in her exciting year ahead.May 2010 - Dr. Cintron and Lauren Hartmann, our technician manager, completed another successful Career Day at William Sidney Mount Elementary School in Stony Brook. Both Dr. Cintron and Lauren brought with them, a few of our furry friends and demonstrated an entire exam and even applied bandages to the kids! - Katie Hall, our office manager, graduated with her Bachelor's of Science degree in Professional Communications with a Journalism concentration from Farmingdale State College on May 16, 2010.
- Staff Sergeant Vinicio A. Andino, a long time client and friend of the Veterinary Hospital, just earned his Bachelor's of Science in nursing from Stony Brook University. We wish him and his family well as they relocate to Washington State.
- Caralyn Schwartz, one of our veterinary technicians, graduated on May 20, 2010, with a Bachelor's of Science in Marine Vertebrate Biology from Stony Brook University, Southampton Campus. She will pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian at University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland beginning in September 2010.
